Monobank: the difference between SWIFT and SEPA details

Choosing a bank-transfer type without confusing it with sending to a card.

Use details suited to the sending method

SWIFT and SEPA are different bank-payment methods. Do not send SWIFT using a set of fields intended for another channel merely because both have an IBAN.

Monobank describes both methods in its international transfers section. Obtain current receiving details from the app, not a screenshot saved years ago.

A euro account and sending euros

If the goal is to retain euros, check the selected currency card and the details issued for it. The sender's bank or service must confirm that it can make the SEPA payment.

Checks before sending

Agree on the channel, currency and purpose with the sender. Clarify both sides' fees and the expected time, including business days.

  • Copy the complete set of details.
  • Check the name's transliteration.
  • Check whether intermediary information is required.
  • Clarify whether the currency is retained or exchanged.
  • Keep confirmation until crediting.

Compare with a direct transfer

A bank payment is not always better than sending by card number. The calculator compares available options for the same budget. Choose by timing and desired balance currency as well as amount.

Do not use a more complicated currency route until every exchange stage is clear.
